This photo is from Grace United Methodist Church.

Thoughts from Fr. Gary Braun of Washington University in St. Louis’ Catholic Student Center:

On prayer – “You scoop up your life, shake it like the gold miners did, let the crap fall out, and get to the gold.”

On purging things from your self, until you can see God more fully – “All of life is a purgation.”

On theology – “For everything you study in theology, it should make sense in human, horizontal relationships.”

The Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus:

“O most holy heart of Jesus, fountain of every blessing, I adore you, I love you, and with lively sorrow for my sins I offer you this poor heart of mine. Make me humble, patient, pure and wholly obedient to your will. Grant, Good Jesus, that I may live in you and for you. Protect me in the midst of danger. Comfort me in my afflictions. Give me health of body, assistance in my temporal needs, your blessing on all that I do, and the grace of a holy death. Amen.”

A few songs that I will sing with the Voices of Eden choir, if I can figure out how to reach the high notes without breaking glass:

Lift Thine Eyes to the Mountain

Riu Riu Chiu

There is No Rose

Headbanging done right.

I liked this cover a lot more than I anticipated. Selena Gomez’s video is a bit unsettling– mainly because I’m not all that comfortable with that amount of female vulnerability and I wasn’t sure how close she was toeing the line between cultural homage and cultural co-opting.

As usual, DailyGrace does a great job of summarizing an appropriate reaction to Gomez’s video:

Umbrella (Rihanna) by All Time Low another punk cover that I like more than the original:

As for my income inequality series, it’s on hiatus. I’m tired! Give me a break :)
